QUAND LA MAIN COLORE LA LUMIÈRE SHAPING THE COLOUR OF LIGHT
L’art du vitrail existait avant l’an mil. Édifices reli-
gieux, demeures privées s’en parèrent largement
avant que le verre transparent ne le supplante
presqu’entièrement. Au XIX , il refit surface, don-
e
nant naissance à de véritables entreprises déco-
ratives. Aujourd’hui, le vitrail sait encore orner et
mettre en valeur cages d’escaliers, salles de bains
et halls d’entrée. Il peut aussi donner de l’âme à
une pièce sombre ou oubliée. Aguerrie par des
années de pratique amateur, Marie-Pierre Bouaziz
en fut convaincue au point de mettre un terme à
sa carrière dans l’import-export. Faisant le grand
saut, au printemps 2016, elle fonda L’âme du
Vitrail. Cette vitrailliste de talent y assure toutes les
étapes de création, du tracé au découpage du verre
jusqu’au montage au plomb, la soudure à l’étain.
Sa technique, sa maitrise font également d’elle une
restauratrice chevronnée. Exposer à la lumière un
vitrail qu’on lui aura commandé ou en replacer un
qu’on lui aura confié à réparer, c’est donner à sa
demeure un surcroît de charme, changeant et cha-
toyant !

Bois, céramique, vitrail, métal et pierre, pour ne
citer que ceux-là, sont les matières-sœurs de l’ar-
chitecture. On en retrouve la mémoire vive dans les
livres publiés par les éditions AAM, « émanation des
Archives d’Architecture Moderne, une association
privée créée en 1969 à Bruxelles pour préserver de la
destruction les archives professionnelles des archi-
tectes de la fin du XIX et du XX ». En se mettant au

service du patrimoine urbain, en le photographiant,
en le documentant, AAM s’est faite le chantre de tous
les artisanats qui, de près ou de loin, participent à
la création architecturale. Plusieurs collections sont
publiées sous la houlette de l’épatant architecte
Maurice Culot. Celle des Carrés révèle aux lecteurs
l’œuvre, entre autres, de Horta, van de Velde, Le
Corbusier, Mallet-Stevens, Frank Lloyd Wright. Trou-
ville, Biarritz, bien d’autres villes iconiques encore,
sont par ailleurs mises à l’honneur par ces éditions
incontournables qui, en ce moment, poursuivent la
publication d’une passionnante collection consa-
crée à l’Art déco.

Stained-glass windows existed before the year
1000. Religious buildings and private homes had
them long before transparent glass took over. They
reappeared in the 19 century, giving birth to true

decorative enterprises. Stained glass still knows
how to adorn and enhance stairwells, bathrooms
and entrance halls. It can also give soul to a dark
or forgotten room. Seasoned by years of amateur
practice, Marie-Pierre Bouaziz was so convinced
of this that she cut short her import-export career.
Taking the great leap in the spring of 2016, she
founded L’âme du Vitrail. This talented stained-
glass artist works on each stage in the creation
process, from sketching to cutting the glass,
preparing and soldering the lead. Her technique
and skill also make her an experienced restorer.
Bringing to the light a stained-glass window that
was ordered or repairing one entrusted to her gives
her home a touch more shifting, iridescent charm!

Wood, ceramics, stained glass, metal and stone,
to name but a few, are architecture’s sister
materials. We find a living trace of them in the
books published by AAM, “stemming from the
Archives d’Architecture Moderne, a private
association created in 1969 in Brussels to save
the professional archives of architects from the
end of the 19 and 20 century from destruction”.

By placing itself at the service of urban heritage,
by photographing and documenting it, AAM
became the eulogist of all the craftsmen who, in
one way or another, took part in architectural
creation. Several collections are published under
the stewardship of the stunning architect Maurice
Culot. The Carrés series shows readers works
of de Horta, van de Velde, Le Corbusier, Mallet-
Stevens, Frank Lloyd Wright. Trouville, Biarritz,
as well as other iconic towns are showcased by
these memorable editions which, at the moment,
are working on the publication of an exciting
collection devoted to Art déco.
